The mid-term elections in 2010 were not just hard on Democrats. They were horrible! And Minnesota was no exception.  Even though state Senator Tarryl Clark fought a valiant race and raised record amounts of campaign contributions, her opponent, the incumbent Rep. Michele Bachmann, raised nearly 3 times as much (thanks to special interest groups) and with the MN-06 District being largely conservative and Republican, Tarryl had many asking her (including Chris Matthews of Countdown - MSNBC) "What on earth were you thinking running against Michele Bachmann?" Well, the fact is someone had to do it! And Tarryl took on the awesome task and worked as hard and smart as anyone possibly could have and in the end she lost. Bachman prevailed. But the thing is, that was only one race. And the experience she gained was invaluable!!!

Tarryl Clark is a fighter! Tarryl knew the risk before she took it but she did it anyway because she is a true patriot and her love of her country and her state of Minnesota precedes her love of self! Tarryl wasn't afraid of losing. To Tarryl it wasn't a loss. It was a new beginning! Tarryl ran for state Senator two times before she was elected and she gave up her state Senate position to run against Bachmann. Does anyone actually think that Clark would do all that for just ONE race and then just fade away? Not on your life!!!! Tarryl Clark has only just begun.

2010 saw not only Bachmann win in Minnesota but there was another startling result that shocked everyone and that was the defeat of longtime Congressman Jim Obestar to newcomer Chip Cravaack. No one saw it coming. Especially not Obestar who everyone thought was a shoe-in.

So if you were Tarryl Clark and you had worked all your life in public service and you were dedicated to serving your State and the good people of Minnesota just what would you do? If you were Tarryl Clark and you were horrified at what the Republicans are doing to this country and how they are talking about ending Medicare or at the very best "overhauling" it; or ending Social Security for our Seniors; or wanting to extend taxes to the wealthy; or catering to big oil and big insurance companies; and you knew that you had worked all your life for this very moment - to be able to stand up and defend the rights of those less privileged and to defend the security and dignity of our seniors as well as work hard to bring jobs back to the state of Minnesota - what would you do?

You would do just exactly what Tarryl Clark has done, if you were smart! You would, first off, know and understand that until you were elected you wouldn't be able to enact any of the plans you had to implement the things above. Where to run and who to run against would be a difficult choice. It might be easier in some other state where there wasn't constant talk and plans of re-districting. And with that being very 'up in the air' it made things even more complicated.  For sure Tarryl didn't want to make the same mistake she did in the race against Bachmann and that was get in late, like she did after Maureen Reed had already thrown her hat in the ring.  This time Tarryl wanted to come out of the chute first! And so she did.

Tarryl did the only wise thing to do. She chose to run in the 8th District against freshman Chip Cravaack. Cravaack, after all, voted against Medicare. What better reason to run against him than that? (There are actually many reasons!)

I can guarantee you one thing. Tarryl Clark would be a welcome candidate to run for Congress in most any city or district in America. And the good people in MN-08 are very lucky that Tarryl has chosen to work hard in the hopes of representing them.

Congratulations to Tarryl for choosing MN-08 and congratulations to MN-08 for having such a fine candidate with such outstanding qualifications as their DFL candidate for Congress in 2012 !!!

Can anyone imagine how thrilled a state like, say Arizona, would be to have someone like Tarryl move there to run for Senator Kyl's place for example. Tarryl did happen to grow up in Arizona, although she left shortly after she and her husband Doug graduated college to make their home in Minnesota.

What more could anyone want? Seriously!!!
